Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Sales Specialist to drive commercial growth for our biotechnology solutions—yeasts, nutrients, fermentation aids, and related products—within the distilled spirits market in China. This role focuses on business development, including identifying new customers, managing existing key accounts, and establishing a strong distributor network.
The ideal candidate combines technical expertise in fermentation or spirits production with strong commercial acumen, and a deep understanding of purchasing departments’ decision-making processes in Chinese spirits producers. Experience working for a competitor or within a distillery/fermentation production environment is highly preferred.
This position requires excellent communication skills in English and Mandarin.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
Identify, target, and acquire new customers in the Chinese distilled spirits industry (baijiu producers, distilleries, fermentation plants, etc.).
Develop and execute sales strategies to grow market share for yeasts, nutrients, and fermentation biotechnology solutions.
Build and manage a strong network of local distributors and channel partners.
Lead technical–commercial presentations and product demonstrations for prospective clients.
Account & Distributor Management
Develop strong long-term relationships with key accounts, purchasing teams, production managers, and technical directors.
Negotiate contracts, pricing, and supply agreements in alignment with company policies.
Support distributors with training, market insights, sales tools, and technical guidance.
Monitor customer satisfaction and ensure optimal service and support.
Technical Expertise
Provide technical advice on fermentation processes, yeast performance, nutrient optimization, and troubleshooting.
Understand customer production workflows and identify areas where biotechnology solutions can create value.
Collaborate with R&D and technical support teams to address customer needs and feedback.
Market Intelligence
Monitor competitor activity, pricing trends, and technological developments within China’s spirits/fermentation sector.
Provide regular market reports and forecasts to management.
Identify emerging opportunities and propose new solutions or strategic approaches.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biotechnology, Fermentation Science, Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
Fluency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken).
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in technical sales, business development, or production roles within fermentation, distilling, yeast manufacturing, or related biotechnologies.
Deep understanding of how purchasing departments operate and make procurement decisions.
Strong network or familiarity with the Chinese distilled spirits market.
Willingness to travel frequently within China.
Preferred
Prior experience working for a competitor (yeast supplier, nutrient provider, fermentation technology company) or a distilled spirits production facility.
Demonstrated success in building and managing distributor networks.
Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills.
